We are jumping for joy with good news. Remember those infringement matters we were working on late last year? One client was accused of patent infringement, three of trademark infringement and two of copyright infringement. We successfully defended and settled almost all of those, with minimum cost and minimum time. All those years arbitrating cases for Cook and Lake County helps keep my clients out of court. The others, we are diligently working toward settlement.
Susana got her first trademark registration, for her line of fantasy cosmetics. She is on track to receiving her second very soon. These will protect her hotly copied brand from counterfeiters around the world. Mike got his 4th trademark registration, for his sportswear and boxing equipment. Congratulations!
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I wish more inventors took advantage of the Patent & Trademark Office’s First-Time Filer Pilot Program. True, not everyone qualifies, but Effie did. She was able to get her patent application expedited at no additional cost. She invented a really clever system for treating balance and agility disorders. We filed 2 months ago and the examiner already is working on her application. Otherwise, she’d have to wait 2 years or more. The program expires on March 11, 2025, so if you are reading this, call today to see if you are a candidate.
In other goods news, Illinois Super Lawyers selected me, for the 7th time in a row, to their list. This is an honor reserved for the top 5% of lawyers in the state. I am grateful to my clients for their trust, and to my peers for their respect. Humbling, and it never gets old.
Are you building a business around something you’ve made, or a brand? Is a patent, trademark or copyright right for you? Do you need a non-disclosure agreement? Give me a call today and learn how to protect yourself.
